The Car-Driver Comparison To Aid Self Realization (Part 2)

If a good driver, while driving a car is distracted by the negative and disturbing scenes which he comes across and his attention is pulled in many different directions, he will make his journey unsafe increasing the probability of meeting with accidents. When the same principles are applied to the soul and the body, I also need to take care that, while traveling on the road of life, I am not distracted by scenes that are not useful to mee.g. when looking out through my eyes and I don’t have to take in all the images, scenes and information along the way, otherwise I may meet with an accident. When listening through my ears, I don’t have to take in all the words and everything that people say, otherwise I may meet with an accident. I can choose to take in what is useful for me, but I do not have to register distracting, negative and harmful images and words. Just like a driver, I see and understand situations, too I keep my eyes and ears open - it would be unsafe to ignore them completely, I need to be aware of them - but I look only for the positive in them, so that I remain focused and am not deflected from my goal of experiencing inner contentment and bliss, while making the journey.

I, as the driver in charge of this vehicle, the body, also need to take care that I do not drive rashly i.e. I learn to monitor the feelings and attitude that are transmitted outwards through my eyes, my words and my complete body language. Driving rashly i.e. transmitting negative energy in this way could harm any co-traveler on the road of life. When these feelings stay positive, filled with sweetness, purity and respect, that too helps to ensure that my journey passes smoothly and enjoyably. When I stay alert and aware in a driver conscious and drive carefully as explained in this and yesterday’s message, my actions bring me closer to my spiritual truth and I am able to share my positivity with others around me. When I lose awareness for even a moment, there's danger either from me to others or vice versa.

The Car-Driver Comparison To Aid Self Realization (Part 1)

One of the comparisons which help in self realization i.e. in strengthening the awareness that I, the soul, a non-physical energy am different from this physical body is that of the driver and the car, where the driver represents the spiritual energy and the car represents the body which is controlled by the spiritual energy. The biggest reason why I do not have the desired control over my physical body, my vehicle, my sense organs today is that I lost the consciousness of being a driver which could control and rule the vehicle. Instead I developed the consciousness that I am this vehicle, this physical body. This consciousness disconnected me from the ability and the power I possessed inside me to control the vehicle. If I want to achieve the desired control, I need to be in a driver consciousness i.e. in the awareness that I am a soul and my body is a vehicle, through which I experience life. Being in this awareness, in this consciousness awakens me and empowers me to regain the much required control over my body.

The car controls are the gears, brakes, accelerator and steering wheel which can be compared to the sense organs of the soul which are the mind, intellect and sanskars and those of the body which are the eyes, ears, nose, hands and tongue. A good driver is one who remains extremely alert and is able to use the gears, brakes, accelerator and steering wheel effectively and efficiently, in order to be fully in control of the vehicle and avoid any accidents. In the same way, as I move on the road of life, I need to keep my mental and physical sense organs (mentioned above) in complete control. If I do that, they will keep my journey enjoyable and take me to my desired destination of mental peace and happiness safely and successfully. If I don’t do that and let them overpower me, accidents will definitely occur, making me peaceless and sorrowful.

Remaining Relaxed During An Interview Or Meeting

A state of relaxed alertness will yield best results in an interview or an important meeting. To relax, you need to remove all sense of confrontation, instead see the meeting as a friendly fact finding exchange and an opportunity to talk quietly of your achievements.

1. Think of your interviewer as someone with whom, very soon, you might find that you have a great deal in common – perhaps not a friend, but someone you enjoy talking to.

2. If the questions become difficult, visualize the Supreme Being in the form of a person in the room – perhaps standing behind the interviewer. Imagine him as a friend urging you on, praising your handling of the situation, persuading you to succeed.

3. If the interviewer seems unfriendly, say to yourself: it is because he or she has difficulty with the situation. Respond calmly and pleasantly.

Forms Of Fear In Our Modern Lifestyle

Fear is a feeling that is generated by the lack of knowledge about a certain situation, place or person. In fear, one feels threatened by something real or imaginary.

Fear often shows itself in our lives in the form of stress, worries and anxiety. Stress is connected with feeling pressure, feeling pushed, forced, to meet deadlines, to do more. Having to produce more and more, and having to be better and better at it, generates tensions and worries that arise in the form of the fear of not being able to achieve those objectives or results on time. The materialistic values of achieving, obtaining, having, accumulating, and ambitions, competing and wanting to obtain a position, generate a lot of pressure and stress. When we are stressed, generally we are overcharged. We think, talk and react too much. All this affects the mind and body negatively. The worst thing is that it becomes a habit, often uncontrolled, so that the simple habit of stopping and relaxing is not considered a solution. Some even consider it to be a waste of time. You have to do more and more, without stopping.

We have taken on stressful attitudes as part of our daily life. When stress persists, corticoids appear, these are sometimes called the fear hormones. When released continuously, they affect our immune system, increasing the likelihood of cardiovascular complications and the risk of cancer.

FreeYour Spirit - The Soul

When the soul speaks, we often feel an upwelling that compels us to do something out of the ordinary. Moments of vision take us into a realm of awe and wonder. Limitations dissolve. We melt into infinite possibility. Immortality of the soul dawns. We are boundless. We are free.

And just as we get going - something snaps us back in to the ‘real world’! The dream is obliterated. It seems like a far fetched fantasy. The mountain is insurmountable; so we carry on as before...

In my experience, contrary to conventional belief, the ‘real world’ is actually the first scenario. The likelihood is that the extraordinary vision was an upwelling from the soul. It is the opportunity to free the soul from the walls we needlessly build to protect it.
So, what is it that snaps us back from following the Soul?

Talking ourselves out of it

More often than not it is self doubt, fear of the unknown or self imposed obligation to something or someone. These are all anchors preventing liberation of our soul.

One of the biggest reasons I discovered for 'talking myself out of flowing with the Soul', was that I was afraid of becoming ‘me’! I mean, even as a confident evolving being, I still found a part of me holding onto some kind of anchor.
It may sound most odd, yet becoming who we truly are is possibly the most daunting thing that we can experience as a human being. It involves letting go of everything!

Contained in a bubble

Imagine that your spirit is contained within a bubble,
the walls of which nothing can permeate.
Imagine that bubble floating like a balloon.
Now see that there are lots and lots of ropes that
firmly anchor this balloon to something.
That something is your human experience.
So life goes on merrily (or un-merrily)
as we go about our daily business with our spirit
restrained and bound in a bubble.

Most of us reading this have reached a stage in our evolution where we are touching our soul. After awakening and connecting with the soul, we begin to look at our ‘stuff’ in varying detail. Every time we overcome part of our baggage, we untie one of these anchoring ropes. Our 'balloon-bound' spirit begins to experience more and more freedom as the ropes loosen. We’ll feel more and more freedom - at times we even momentarily transcend limitations altogether, feeling unrestrained and universal. As long as there are still ropes anchoring the balloon though, we will always snap out of the experience and have something else to unravel.

Why don’t we just sever the ties?

In theory, we could just wield the universal sword and severe all the ties in one fell swoop. But we don’t. Of course we don’t. Once all of the the ropes have been cut, the balloon will be released, the impermeable wall falls away and we are unleashed into absolute freedom. Whilst is sounds extraordinarily awesome - and we might think - "right lets do it now", there is a part of us that still holds on. There is good reason for this. Such freedom of spirit is like nothing we would have known before; so a gradual assimilation is often the best way. It’s not until we have relinquished every attachment that we undo the last of the anchors.

Absolute trust

To be so free and unrestrained involves 100% trust in the universe. This is one of the last remaining doubts to go.
Even as evolved beings who have resolved most ‘stuff’, the reason we ‘snap’ back from experiences of sublime beauty is because of lack of trust. In order to trust we have to let go of every expectation, desire, hope, dream, belief, in fact every everything. It’s a pretty tall order!

Life will never be the same again. Yet we will be awesomely fine with that. We won’t know what is coming in each moment, yet we are ready for whatever that is.Becoming who we truly are takes a cataclysmic leap of faith into the unknown; unrestrained surrender into the divine flow of the universe in every moment, unleashing miraculous happenings that we never imagined possible. To feel the whole, completeness of our absolute authenticity, is the liberation, yearning in our deepest depths. Yet to experience this, we have to close our eyes to the world and start seeing with the eyes of the Soul. We begin to feel the space between the spaces and communicate in alignment with the flow of the .

Profound self honesty

The best way to begin is to allow the upwelling to arise and follow the pull of your soul. Feel the truth in your heart. Listen with profound self honesty. What does it really say?By doing this, the 'anchoring ropes' will begin to fall away one by one.
Keep listening.
Keep trusting.
Keep unfolding until all of the ropes have undone.
Then you will soar like a bird released!

The Spiritual Warrior

Denial is dangerous

You may feel the pipe too constricted within you and it may cause you initially to tighten as it flows. That's when the warrior energy turns into frustration and anger. If this happens, keep working with it. Work with people who'll let you be who you are without judgment. When it happens to the friends in my life, I get them to don boxing gloves and spar (either with me or a punch bag). It's simply amazing how liberating and enlivening it can be!The key is not to suppress the warrior energy or try to make it dissolve before you are ready; denial is dangerous because the energy simply goes inside leading to repression, deep seated frustration and stress.

Keep finding the appropriate vehicle. We will each have a way appropriate for our lives and when we've discovered how to harness the energy, we become more at ease with it. We don't tighten when it arises, we don't get angry or frustrated and we certainly don't use it to control or intimidate people. Arising anger is directed positively rather than at people.

In so doing, it becomes a powerfully creative force for good in our lives. It gives us the courage to surmount the seemingly insurmountable. In these often chaotic times of great change and challenge, it is the energy that can break down the limiting constrictions of the past and unleash positive force for growth. It is this energy that can open the breathing space for a higher harmony to emerge.

"Build Strength, Courage and Communicate Better"

Well, this statement provokes some thought. The Lion from Oz certainly
comes to mind. Having more guts or the courage to do things is always
going to be a help. Being courageous means facing fear head on and not
to be afraid to move further. Practice these affirmations daily and
you're on your way to manifesting strength and courage!

* What others think about me is unimportant - what I think about myself is vital
* I am proud of who I am; I respect myself

* It's easy to speak my mind, and I do it
* Day by day, in every way, I build my strength and courage

"Amazing Concentration"

Never doubt the power of the mind. If you put your mind into it, you
can achieve amazing things. Great success comes to those who can focus
on a goal positively. Focusing on achieving your goal gets easier over
time and before you know it you'll be living your dreams. Start using
the following affirmations to reprogram your mind.

1. All my efforts are focused toward my goals
2. I now carefully choose what to focus my mind on
3. Every day, my concentration builds
4. My thoughts are clear and focused
5. I manifest what I focus on

It’s time – Be a Priority not an Option

In this age of social networking it is possible to have thousands of friends but no real friendships. There are many who will turn up for the midnight party yet how many can we rely on at a time of need? We have many options but who would be our priority? How many people do we know who really raise our energy, our spirits and our self-esteem?

In our ever-increasing social circles, where sadly competition seems to take precedence over companionship, there are some who stand out and shine brighter than others. These are the ones who aim to win hearts rather than points, who listen more than they speak, offer rather than take, and who are willing to ‘walk the extra mile’ for you and with you, for no other reason than that’s ‘who they are’ – somebody special!

We may count ourselves lucky to have such friends in our life, but how many would say the same about us?

In order for me to be a priority in someone else’s life I have to first make my own life a priority by making myself my own best friend; when I recognize my own value then I can value others and in turn they will value me. To be a good friend means I need to appreciate not denigrate, to be strong not weak, to offer shelter in the storm, to be able to receive graciously but not expect or want. This all takes a good degree of self-respect. And self-respect will automatically draw respect from others.

For this necessary inner work, don’t compare yourself with others; create a league of your own. Focus on the pure intent of your actions. Create high morals, standards, disciplines and good character and you will earn your reputation naturally. There will be no need to advertise. Sincerity and integrity speak for themselves.

Of course I can’t force someone to make me a priority in their life if they don’t want to. Just as a company can’t force customers to buy from them no matter how good a product they may have on offer. But to even know that such a shop exists will come handy one day. So when the need arises, they will know where to come.

We prioritize our tasks daily, and likewise it’s also important to prioritise our relationships. Just as we can’t seem to let go of that favourite dress that we have not worn for 15 years, sometimes we don’t seem to be able to let go of our outmoded relationships. If a relationship has passed its expiry date, then it’s not healthy. Let go of it (with good feelings) and make room for something new to emerge.

Furthermore, if someone is draining your energy, or taking advantage, then it’s just a sign that we haven’t yet developed the skills to manage ourselves and draw our boundaries diligently. In this situation we need to build more self respect, learn to be more loving, and yet at the same time more detached. Sometimes, with our big heart we try to help someone out of the mire of their negativity, but we only succeed in getting stuck in the bog ourselves! We need to increase our value and know our own capacity.

There is a hairline difference between ego and self-esteem. If we are doing things for others just to be accepted or recognized, then it means that we lack value for ourselves, this is inverted ego. The other type of ego to look out for is the one that succumbs to praise, feels they always know best, and says: “Look at me, I’m such a good person!” Ego is not a basis for an honest and respectful relationship.

It’s time… to increase your self worth and to create a league of your own. Whether others prioritise you or not in their life, that doesn’t matter, prioritise yourself and continue to increase your shine so that out of all the options, you are their priority option!

The Joy of a Raj Yogi Life (Part 1)

A Raj Yogi is a person who practices Raj Yoga. Raj Yoga does not only imply a form of meditation but a way of life, where the Yogi chooses the way of peace at all times, thereby also choosing the path to happiness. The Raj Yogi is a master, completely aware of the impact of his/her thoughts, feelings, words and deeds and pays constant attention to creating only the highest and purest intentions. The Yogi is deeply aware that he is not the body, and although he lives in the world, he is not of it, this attitude keeps the Yogi beyond and completely free. The Yogi and God are inseparable. With God as his guiding light, the Yogi takes support only from the One Supreme, the Almighty Authority.

The title of a Raj Yogi does not come easily. With great effort and dedication the Yogi perseveres on his inner journey. When ascending there are highs and lows, here too the Yogi is undeterred, not distracted, accepting each and every challenge no matter how tough the spiritual climb. With God by a Yogi’s side the journey is made smooth and easy.

What does the Yogi do to achieve this ‘royal’ title of being a Raj? How does a Yogi become a Raj Yogi? The Yogi moves away from the old ways of seeing and doing. The Yogi does not blame or complain any more, because with wisdom the Yogi now has understanding and the Yogi does everything with royalty, dignity and self-mastery.

There will be challenges and struggles whilst on the spiritual path, just as in life for everyone. The only difference is the way the challenge is perceived by the Yogi, and the tools which the Yogi uses to overcome them. The yogi knows that every encounter makes him stronger and wiser. The Yogi is aware of the spiritual laws of the universe and therefore seeks to work in harmony with the spiritual laws, rather than against them.

At times the Yogi will realize that he has been carried whilst on the journey and that God has always been a gentle presence in his life. The Yogi does not look back, but he stays focused and moves forward, keeping just the one goal in mind: to re-connect to his lost inner world. It is a long journey, but made short because the Yogi continues to live in the present at each and every moment.

If the Yogi is to make any real progress on the spiritual path, to become a true Yogi, then the Yogi will need to realize that he simply cannot afford to waste any of his precious resources. The Yogi’s thoughts, feelings, time, breath, powers, wealth etc, are all invaluable. The way in which the Yogi uses all of these things will either help to move him closer to his destination, or move him further away.

With every step and at every second the Yogi must remember 10 key points:

1) Start the day with the conscious awareness that the Yogi is a soul and not a body. Remain soul conscious and peaceful at all times.

2) Maintain a pure elevated attitude and vision for the self and for others.

3) Keep God as his one strength and one support and stay constantly connected to the One in order to stay charged at all times.

4) Remain double light by maintaining a balanced awareness of being a trustee, staying light and burden-free.

5) Plant seeds of good wishes, pure thoughts, good feelings and good deeds, sharing and caring for every soul.

6) Accept the flow of drama. Be able to put a full stop at every second and not allow events and situations to merge into each other.

7) Practice the virtues of maturity, introversion, humility and sweetness at every step.

8) Radiate light and might to all souls, being stable whilst serving others.

9) Remain strong and unshakeable. Keep a watchful eye for illusion, Maya, a mythical character who is remembered as the one who is forever trying to pull the Yogi down.

10) Take each step in mindfulness and to stay in the awareness of Truth whilst co-operating with the universal spiritual laws.

It’s time… for you to experience the magic and joy of a Raj Yogi life. Become a master of your choices and a master of your life and thereby experience lasting happiness and freedom that this beautiful state of Raj Yoga consciousness can provide. And when you look back at your most vulnerable moments and see only one set of footprints, understand that God had not abandoned you then but was indeed carrying you.

Prajapita Brahma Baba..............The Instrument of the Almighty God

Pitashri Prajapita Brahma
was the founding father of the Brahmakumaris. He became the instrument of Almighty God for the establishment of the institution in 1936. Prior to the establishment of the institution, he was well known as Dada Lekhraj.

Though by birth he was an ordinary man, there were many special qualities in him, qualities apparent though indefinable, even at first glance. He had a delightful, indescribable attractiveness, a charisma which surrounded him like a glow. One felt even from afar the love, the humility, the heart-felt sincerity of his nature. Even more, one felt the strength and there was the unforgettable, magnetic attraction of his eyes. His ways of living, his gentlemanly manner, his true devotion, won him friends and admirers wherever he set foot. Darkness and depression were unknown to this soul.

Dada Lekhraj was born in 1876 in Sindh province of the present Pakistan. Though his father was a schoolmaster by profession, he began his own career as a small wheat merchant. Later he entered the diamond trade. Almost by instinct, he developed great expertise in discriminating the value of different gems. In a very short time, his reputation grew and his business became more and more profitable. Rajas and maharajas of the native states of India, as well as the British Viceroy became his friends and clients. They afforded him utmost respect - not merely because of his brilliant diamonds, but because of the brilliance they felt in him.

Dada did not have a great deal of formal education. But he had deeply studied philosophy and different religious texts. Being a great devotee, he would never compromise on his religious activities and living style. He was fond of going on pilgrimages and visited various pilgrim centers. He often invited sadhus and sannyasis to be his houseguests. He enjoyed conversing with them on their religious understanding. He had great faith in religious teachers. Being a great philanthropist, Dada was always involved in charitable activities. He was always a selfless donor. He would sit with his uncle and together they would hand out their money to the lines of people who arrived in need of help.

With the establishment of the institution Prajapita Brahmakumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Dada Lekhraj was called Pitashri Prajapita Brahma, the father of humanity and people called him Brahma Baba. Pitashri Brahma followed the directions of God at every step of his life. He always had good wishes for everyone and carefully guided many to their predestined aim.

Pitashri (meaning father) was a picture of humility. He worked long hours, efficiently performing every type of service including the most menial work. The spirit of service, humility and dedication became ideal for everyone. He warned that one should not work for winning personal glory or name, fame and titles, for he considered one’s desire for praise and rewards as a subtle kind of begging and as a weakness of character.

Pitashri Brahma was a constant source of inspiration and wisdom for everyone. He taught the subtlest secrets of how to invoke in the self, divine attributes such as introspection. He spent a lot of time in solitude thinking deeply about the information which God was delivering through him. He re-educated his mind to comprehend from every perspective the meaning of contemporary events and eternal verities. He was able to see the whole world process clearly

Pitashri Brahma gave joy to others through his deep spirituality. His stage of soul-consciousness was so elevated and powerful that most of the people who sat near him felt that they were becoming more and more detached from their bodies. They noticed a divine light enveloping him on all sides and would see a strange radiance there. This experience charmed them so much as to make them long for the lasting joy of this experience.

After leading a life of highest order and principles, in which every of his action was filled with divinity and became ideal for everyone to emulate, Pitashri left his mortal coils in 1969 to attain angelichood.

The Prajapita Brahmakumaris World Spiritual University

The Prajapita Brahmakumaris World Spiritual University is a well known spiritual value based educational institution. Through it’s teachings, the institution has gained global acceptance and unique international recognition. The institution believes in the parenthood of God and the brotherhood of man and is open to the people of the entire globe irrespective of their caste, creed, age and social, economic or political status.

Prajapita Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University and the two other institutions created by it, namely Raj Yoga Education and Research Foundation and Brahma Kumaris Academy for a Better World are dedicated to the goal of establishing a Value-based society. Their main focus is the development of human potential. They aim at bringing harmony in human relations and changing the attitudes and outlook of man so that there is the spirit of brotherhood, love and co-operation.

In order to achieve this goal of establishing a new world order in which there is honesty, sincerity, goodwill and high civic sense, these institutions facilitate people to have a clear vision of their goal and also respective role in the world drama. They give them a clear view of the world and also knowledge of their own identity. They also teach theory and practice of Rajyoga Meditation so that man’s mind becomes free from tension, bias, prejudices, hypocrisy, jealousy, hatred, greed, ego and such other negative tendencies that cause conflict in the society and degrade the person himself. They give special guidance for the effort of inculcating moral values and divine virtues in the self and enables a person to experience deep peace and bliss through Meditation and Spiritual Wisdom.

The emphasis of Brahma Kumaris is on promoting the qualities of humanism, tolerance and never-ending enthusiasm for spreading the knowledge of truth in every sphere of life. The institution recognises the intrinsic spirituality and goodness of every human being. Further it helps people rediscover that goodness themselves within, thus encouraging and facilitating the development of spiritual awareness, attitudes, behavior and skills through a process of lifelong learning. The institution's purpose is to share the vision of a world where people live in harmony with others and to strengthen individual awareness of the dignity and inherent worth of every human being.

The institution imparts knowledge and experience that enable a person to face the problems of life in a calm, composed and confident manner. Such a person can lead a life of inner satisfaction and kindle in others stable faith in goodness and brings honour to his nation. It firmly believes that education should be for practical life and not merely for a vocation or a profession or job. The education imparted here, though visibly spiritual in content, is a happy blend of ethics, practical psychology, metaphysics or philosophy, the gist of world history and culture, sociology, political science and, in fact, many other subjects.

As an international institution, the Brahma Kumaris offers people of all backgrounds an opportunity to learn meditation and deepen their understanding of universal principles and innate values through a variety of educational programmes, courses and learning resources. As a worldwide family of individuals from all walks of life, the institution provides a caring, co-operative and supportive environment, which encourages individuals to bring out the best in themselves. As a global organization, the institution has created opportunities for people across the world to participate in a variety of initiatives aimed at creating a better world where people live in peace and harmony.

The institution believes that all the problems plaguing the society and the world today - social, economical, political, religious etc – can be eradicated only by building character in all human beings. There is a well-known saying that “if character is lost, everything is lost”. Hence the institution gives utmost importance to character-formation and to maintaining peace.
